General
Take Space happily accepts private clients and no referral is necessary.
Medicare rebates are available under a Mental Health Care Plan referral from your GP. Lots of doctors will ask that this be a “long appointment” in order to go through some questions with you.
This rebate is $85.20. Medicare rebates are accessible through the MyGov app, Take Space does not have the capacity to put through Medicare rebates currently.
Please note that Take Space does not have capacity for bulk billing appointments, your GP may be able to direct you to some no-fee options.
Take Space works with a number of people that utilise NDIS funding for a variety of reasons. We are able to work with people both plan managed and self-managed.
You can call to enquire about appointments by contacting Take Space on 0434 707 171 or emailing your query to info@takespace.com.au . We work Monday to Thursday and will endeavour to get back to you in one business day.
This depends, for a young person we encourage their adults (parents/grandparents/ foster parents/ caregivers) to attend with them. There are a lot of things that impact how we have gotten to a certain point and having an adult there can help answer lots of the questions (it can also lower anxiety and help us get to know each other in a comfortable way!)
Adults are welcome to have time on their own to speak with the clinician privately. Young people will not be forced to speak until they are comfortable.
Appointments are 50 minutes in length. In regard to how many appointments someone might need, that’s dependent on the situation, the person and ways in which therapy is helping. This is a really individualised process, feel free to talk with your clinician about this in person.
Sessions can look very different for each family. I use a range of approaches in supporting clients, working primarily from a strengths based and trauma informed perspective. At Take Space, you can expect unconditional respect, individualised support and further information and referrals where appropriate.
Attending appointments doesn’t need to be a big deal. Therapy is based around finding ways to identify, name and cope with emotions. We could all use this at times in our life! It can be helpful to share with your young people that their emotions are normal and part of growing is to work on ways to make sense of emotions. Navigating emotions is a lifelong skill -the same way you might take your kid to swimming lessons!
Take Space is proud of its connection to the Gender and Sexually Diverse communities. Take Space acknowledge not everyone can be across all intricacies, though we take time to continually learn and upskill from and with community. Gender and Sexually diverse informed practice is more than asking people for their preferred pronouns, but creating a space where individuals feel seen and heard without having to educate their clinician on gender dysphoria or the differences in diverse relationships.
Take Space is here to work with all families and identities and makes a continuing commitment to growth and knowledge to best support these communities.
Yes we do! Therapy should not be based on your ability to attend an office. Finding the right therapist can be hard. Take Space has a connection to South West Queensland and an awareness that this can be difficult in finding the right clinician. For whatever reason, living rurally, disability, transport issues, comfort and ease, Take Space can provide therapy online!
Social work is about a holistic view and support of an individual. Take Space is not seeking to put a diagnosis or label on a person, merely meet where the individual is at and find a way forward from there, together.
As an Mental Health Social Worker, I work under Medicare, NDIS and other programs delivering clinical social work services in private practice utilising a variety of evidence-based strategies. The Federal Government places AMHSW’s like other Allied Health Professionals such as Psychologists in assessing and providing therapeutic supports and strategies in mental health and disability.
At Take Space, we view therapy as a tool to support your family. In supporting your young ones, we also at times work with their parents. Parents are welcome to speak with clinicians during appointments or to access their own therapy with the counsellor if appropriate.
For feedback on sessions, there is formalised feedback given around the third or fourth appointment depending on age and capacity of the young person. Any risk will be shared during session or contact will be made to ensure the safety of the young person, where possible and safe to do so, the young person will be supported to share this information to parents.
